A Little History
Soon After high school Duane Slaymaker began looking for a career other than working on his parents farm. He decided to focus on his passion for woodworking. He signed on as an apprentice under designer Kai Pedersen of Pedersen woodworking in Neffsville Pa. Mr. Pedersen was a designer and builder of his own line of contemporary Windsor style furniture and possessed a keen sense of design and quality. During the four years under Kai, Duane learned much about woodworking techniques, design and furthered his own natural abilities.
In 1988 Duane left Pedersen woodworking and opened The Wood Shed in an unused tobacco drying barn on his parents farm. Since then, The Wood Shed has provided it's customers with one of a kind projects in cabinetry and fine furniture. Although Duane has purposefully remained a solo operation, The business has grown extensively accepting increasingly complex and challenging projects.
